The Tale of a Dreamer
Memories…

I used to work the Overnight shift at Walmart stocking the Dairy section for 9 months or so when I was in college. I have a lot of fond memories of that time in my life as it was strewn with struggle, depression, unhealthiness, poor grades, etc… One of my favorite memories of that time would be right after I found out the one O/N (overnight) Produce stocker was into Sci-Fi and Star Wars like I was. I can remember passing him on my way out of the store after my shift one morning and I said ‘May the force be with you’ as we passed and he replied ‘And with you as well.’ It was so in the moment and spontaneous that it felt like we were part of the Star Wars universe and we actually said it regularly. He was a pretty cool guy. I can’t for the life of me remember what his name was, fuck I can’t remember most people’s names there but I do remember some great times. A black out in the middle of a snow storm - driving to work that night was ominous because it was 1ft of snow on the ground and a wicked blowing wind with copious amounts of falling snow coming at me as I drove the 30 minute trek to work. Then the black out half way through my shift and the overhaul I had to do on everything I had already stocked to get it onto pallets and into the freezer truck until they restored power, which happened right as I exited the store. The random nights where I was so exhausted I fell asleep standing up socking various things like yogurt or cheese. The nights where I would go home so exhausted I would sleep from 7am until 8pm. The random shopping trips after work… That was truly a cherished time…
